Lord Armstrong of Ilminster 1927-2020

We are sad to announce the death of one of our founding trustees, Lord Armstrong of Ilminster on 3 April 2020 at the age of 93.

Probably best known as an eminent civil servant, he was private secretary to three Prime Ministers and Cabinet Secretary from 1979-1987, Robert Armstrong was also a true music lover and one of our last direct links to our founder Ralph Vaughan Williams who he first met in 1951 and knew well.

He served as a Trustee of the RVWT from its inception in 1956 and throughout that time offered sage and generous counsel. We will miss him enormously.
